Lesson:

Word Choice

Grade 3
Writing with more detail, and expanding on thoughts.
this is what has been assessed from the letter already written:

*   The student struggles with expressing their thoughts
*   The letter asks many questions to the author, but they are very broad
*   There is one point where the student asks a question, then answers the question themselves in the next sentence
*   Accuracy of expression
*   Stay away from being redundant

Mini-Lesson

Student needs to make more connections in the letter to the author
Focus Questions: Why did you like that book?
                             How did you feel when you read it?
                             What was your favourite part?

*   Have child make a list of adjectives they could include in letter
*   Focus on asking detailed questions that are more open ended – not just yes or no answers
*   Develop a list of conjunctions and use of them which could be included in the letter
