Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin

Step 1: Introduce the Book (what do think the book is about)
  • Awarded: Caldecott Honor Book (Given for good Illustrations-Picture Books)
  • Has an image of an man (emotions)
 
Step 2: Read the book-students read simultaneously
  • Act out how you would be holding the instruments being played (model actions for student first, then do it with them)
  • Designate student to flip the page, distribute instruments
 
Step 3: Comprehension Check
  • After the story, what happened in the story? What happened in the beginning the middle and the end? 
  • Name the instruments in order
  • Was there rhyming questions?
  • Is there another way of saying numbers? If so please example from the book.
 
Step 4: Retell the Story
  • Now put the instruments/discussion of instruments in order
  • Explain the instrument and what order it fell in the book
 
Step 5: Teacher remodelling the story
  • Discuss knowledge gained from book-and discussed what the students enjoyed about the book
 
Step 6: Next day reading-Delegates tasks to students
  • ESL students emphasize sequence of events
